Ubuntu Linux is a complete Linux operating system.

Ubuntu Linux is a complete Linux operating system with both community and professional support. Ubuntu has been around for only a few years, but has grown to be one of the most popular Linux distros ever.

Ubuntu Linux is suitable for both desktop and server use. Ubuntu supports Intel x86, 64-bit AMD, and PowerPC chips.

Ubuntu Linux includes more than 16,000 pieces of software, but the core installation fits on a single CD. Ubuntu includes word processing, spreadsheets, internet browsers, web servers, email, programming tools, games, and many more. Overall, Ubuntu Linux is very solid, and very well crafted, even though it seems sparse compaired to other more polished distros.

Slackware

Slackware, started by Patrick Volkerding in late 1992, and initially released to the world on July 17, 1993, was the first Linux distribution to achieve widespread use.

There are many reasons why Slackware is Linux's oldest living distribution. It does not try to emulate Windows, it tries to be as Unix-like as possible. It does not try to cover up processes with fancy, point-and-click GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces). Instead, it puts users in control by letting them see exactly what's going on. Its development is not rushed to meet deadlines-each version comes out when it is ready.

KNOPPIX

KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on DVD, features automagic hardware detection, and supports most any hardware you can try it on. KNOPPIX is one of the first "live" CD distros and is the most polished I have tried. It can be used as a Linux system for the desktop just like it is. It also can be used as a rescue CD to recover your system, or can be modified and used as a platform for just about anything you can think of!

It is not necessary to install it on a hard disk, just boot up the Cd, and in 5 minitues you will have a fully operational Linux system to try. If you want, user data can be stored on USB keys and swap partions will automatically be used to add more memory for applications. Knoppix is based on Debian and the DVD version I sell includes thousands of applications.

Fedora one of the best Linux distributions.

Fedora provides a very robust, secure, and feature-packed system. Not only is Fedora ideal for Desktop systems but also makes a great server due to its emphasis on security and stability. Anaconda is the installer Rehat has used for years, and is polished and professional. Users with little to no Linux experience can install Fedora and not have to worry about tweaking the system to work with their hardware. It just works out of the box. The new kernel is fast and lean! Fedora installs software using RPM pre-built software packages and updates using YUM, one of the best software managment tools around. All of these features make Fedora one of the best Linux distributions to date.

Debian Rocks!

Debian is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to developing free software and promoting the ideals of the Free Software Foundation. The Debian Project began in 1993, when Ian Murdock issued an open invitation to software developers to contribute to a complete and coherent software distribution based on the relatively new Linux kernel. That relatively small band of dedicated enthusiasts, originally funded by the Free Software Foundation and influenced by the GNU philosophy, has grown over the years into an organization of around 900 Debian Developers.

Debian's attention to detail allows us to produce a high-quality, stable, and scalable distribution. Installations can be easily configured to serve many roles, from stripped-down firewalls to desktop scientific workstations to high-end network servers.
